Singapore River Hongbao 08

Having worked for this event full time has given me great insight on events... it was a challenge for myself... and i'm glad to say i passed with flying colours...

when i took it up, i was worried if my stamina was up to standard... 12 full days of work... 14 hours each day... it was something i never experienced and i would think i could never fulfil... but day by day i managed... though after each day of work, i was really exhausted but i was filled with the various lessons that i have learnt from the event... how to think on your feet, how to handle emergencies, how to handle angry clients/vendors.. it all comes from experience... i guess the worse bit for me was not being able to spend new year with my family... reunion dinner was a short one cos i was running a high fever and after one day at work, all i wanted was to sleep.. i didn't manage to go visiting or meet up with my friends cos i was working... but yet, it also made me see that many other people were working while this part of the world celebrates...

i made new friends as well.. people whom i would never have talked to if i weren't on this event.. the bangladashi, the china students, the contractors... i got to know more about their culture, their countries, our differences... of cos, more importantly, i learnt more about how to manage them...

i saw for myself the screw ups that happened and the instant decisions that had to be made, i saw how different groups of people bond over a short span of 12 days... imagine me and the police guys sharing food, me and the banglas sharing ice cream, me and the china students sharing our stories on learning english... it was fun....

as i prepare to go back to office on tuesday, my mind is still thinking of going back to site... going back to spend each waking hour with the friends that i have worked with during the 12 gruelling days... i think it will take me a long while before i can be prepared to go back to office again and stare at the computer...

incidents that happened onsite are really unforgettable... my banglas went the extra mile to pick two balloons that was stuck in the fan for me.. to keep me company while they were all at work under the sun and i needed to be stationed in the office... i brought back those two balloons and they are still keeping me company as i blog...

the police guys also gave me a balloon... except that this is a customized one and just between me and one of the guys whom i work closely with... it was a sweet gesture and with all the funny stories such as the two of us being a couple and him showing the balloon to his mom to let her see his dream girl made it sweeter... whether it is the truth or not, whether we will eventually work things out, it didn't really matter... what really mattered was that i was truly happy when i laughed when i was onsite... =)

hopefully, there's more to come... hopefully, we will work together again... hopefully, this relationship will continue even after 20 yrs...
