What did I learn?

I've started my course with UNLV... it's been a short three sessions with them but i am enjoying it thoroughly... the classmates come from various backgrounds.. some are retirees, some are in the industry working as event planners, some are full time students with unlv, some are like me, trying to switch to another industry...

we're now onto our first module taught by Michael.. somebody who has worked in the industry for a full 8 yrs... with almost 80 events under his belt, he shares with us a whole lot of real lessons that he has encountered in his course of work.. including the risk he took, the blunders he made and all...

For me, going through the course and reflecting back at the events I have done in the past, I realised how much I have missed out when it comes to planning and executing the event... things such as security, transportation etc.. even things like fulfilling the five senses was neglected... well, now with more things learnt in class, i feel more confident in holding a bigger and grander event in time to come...

while i am truly enjoying myself in class, work hasn't been good... first day at XX company and i felt so isolated, felt that i couldn't blend in.. but most importantly i felt that if i was going to leave the company for MICE industry, they would be wasting time in training me... esp when they need somebody to lighten their burden while they expand... i felt guilty in some way or another... i was sick for two days and they called up my agent and told them that i would be missing out on my training and wanted my agent to ask if i was ok with intensive or gradual training... i was like, "huh?" you dun even have a word of concern for your staff? oh well, i'll speak to my manager tomorrow and tell her about my thoughts...see how things go... shall update again...
