Finally the day came for the 24 of us to graduate.. after one yr since our last lesson... The graduation itself was quite a joke as it was not the usual serious graduation ceremony.. but more of like a kindergarten class graduation... some of us got quite pissed off.. others were just glad to have not attended it at all... for me, i chose not to attend it but yet i turned up to meet my old friends...
Looking back at the past one yr, all of us have graduated and moved into the different areas which we want to be in... some of us have left the events industry, some like me have stayed in the industry, doing events and still refining the way we craft our events... we still have a long way to go but i know we will get there in the end...
on the way to the ceremony, i wondered to myself, if you were here with me, would you share my joy of graduation with me and be proud of me? I wanted very much to share this joy with you... while most of the time, my feet were not planted onto the ground, you were my anchor and kept me focused... now that i can plant my own two feet into the ground on my own, would you be proud of me?
the other day, cubix and i went into an indian restaurant and over there, naturally, i got reminded of you... the nice restaurants we went to, the boo boos I had made with the super sweet dessert and water and of cos, the moo moos and elephants which i loved so much... sometime further ago, your colleague dropped me an email asking about me and said she wanted to carry on being a friend with me despite all that has happened... while her reason for replying almost 8 mths later was rather unbelievable, i still couldn't let myself be friends with her again... sometimes, i wonder how would i react if i had seen you somewhere along the streets of our old office? would i avoid you or would i be gracious enough to forget everything and say hi?

........
sometimes i'm just so tired of classes.. tired of exams, assignments and all sorts... esp when you have thousand and one thing to do and the last thing you ever want to do is to be seated in class and not out there completing the stuff u wanna do...
started on my new job and already i feel overwhelmed.. days pass by rather quickly when you're at work.. you do a lot of research, you spend time formatting word documents, spend time correcting your english grammer and worried that i fall short of expectations... although learning new things is a good experience and a total different industry... *well, not really new*, the feeling of self is not that good over there if you know what i mean... you lose your self in work and sometimes i dunno what am i doing anymore.. i just do bcos it is done this way..
class started again this week.. new lecturer, new notes, new textbooks, but basically same pool of shit still happens to be there... like cramped schedules, lots of assignments, exams, tests... but of cos, there are nice classmates, some of which have left the course but yet still kept in touch... classmates make the course more bearable.. but hopefully the rest of the stuff does not fizzle out the passion for events... i have absolutely no wish to go back to the corporate world... with makeup and all sorts.. all the pretentious socialising... i like to be myself...
coming back to class also brings back memories of something that cannot and will not happen due to some other factors... somethings are just not meant to be i guess...

Microsoft word has got spell check...
Just had a long exhausting day cos I was sick... like really sick with a pair of inflamed tonsils and a fever... * damn the tonsils!* I had been rushing for my school project till 4am for two days and then waking up early to get other work done... prob that's the reason why the tonsils found the right opportunity to attack...
While I thought my project was almost over, just a little more to go.. hiccups came along... the team lead didn't managed to see my piece of work tht i spent a whole load of time on.. and he handed in something which i am not sure of whatever it is.... upset about it cos if he didn't manage to see it, he should have contacted me and asked if i had sent it over or not. you know what is the most upsetting bit? he had called me during the day and asked me about the stuff and i told him about it... i felt it was ok to tell me that we're not using your copy but i guess at least tell me and not just scrape it off like that.. let me learn what is not right and so i can learn from my mistake....
subsequently, he decides that he dun have time to do his presentation slides, he wants to chuck it to other people aka me... and shoved me the word doc which he intended to submit to the school as a proposal for the REAL event that we will be holding... imagine, every single line contains at least one spelling error... hello.. there is a F7 button that you press for spell check... dun send in a sloppy piece of work simply because you dun have the time... it reflects badly on yourself and dun drag the rest of the team mates in....
i spent the past one hour trying to change the format and correct all the spelling and sentence structure that he has in the doc... the more i do, the more frustrated i got.... BAH! so much for trying to rest!!! Next time ah, dun work with ppl like that!

Things I have learnt
since the time i started classes... i noticed the subtle little changes in myself... so what has changed?
1. Supermarkets
supermarkets to me, have evolved... esp the meat section... looking at the meat section would remind me of the retail beef chart that was discussed in class, the various part of the moo moo that was renamed into various cuts... which are the better cuts and why and why are they so expensive.. how they grade the beef and the marbling on the beef all makes more sense now...
supermarkets also provide me a great learning ground to see which are the foods that are sous vide ie vaccum packed or can be pre-prep before a banquet..
2. Buffets
we learnt that buffets are high risk when it comes to food poisoning... due to the long hours it is left outside and the temperature control... imagine cream soup turning sour due to lack of temperature control.. drink it and you will get an upset tummy... also, it's not wise to pack food back from buffets.. u know how we always love to do such things after a workshop, esp when there's a lot of food left.. that's really not advisable cos once the food leaves the food warmer and god knows how many hours after before you eat it.. you never know if it has turned bad
3. Event organisers
I went to the book fair the other day.. first thing i would notice.. the event organiser, the schedule ie any special programs, how they place the programs, the sponsors.. are there any wow factor... and also the placing of the various booths..
4. French names
during our classes we learnt a lot a lot of french words.. names for finger foods, for the various levels of chefs and blah blah blah... also we learnt that traditional french cuisines consists of 12 courses and sorbet is considered one of the first few courses as it clears your palatte...
overall, till now, no grouses about the course only compliments as I am truly enjoying the course... more exciting stuff coming my way!
