giving up seats in singapore

i remember my cube mate who's heavily pregnant complaining to me once... or maybe more than once... can't remember... " nobody gives up seats to pregnant ladies in singapore.. they look at you, look at your tummy and then goes back to whatever they are doing.. only when i was going to drop off, then one young schoolkid comes asking auntie, you want to sit?" her exasperated expression was something that i couldn't forget... a heavily pregnant lady, feet and back aching like mad and hoping to have a seat.. you get the idea...

after i left hp, i noticed more of such stuff cos somehow, this baby education is having an impact on me... that very same day when i left hp, carrying a paper bag of stuff.. not heavy, just irritating to carry... one side of the handle gave way and i had no choice but to hug the whole bag and with a brolly in my hand, boarding a bus full of ppl... the bus nearly collided with some other vehicle and causing most of the passengers to surge forward.. and some of my stuff almost falling out of the bag.. some nice indian uncle wanted to offer me his seat, after seeing me with struggling with the bag... i declined cos he's much older than me and besides i'm getting off the next stop.. but his thoughts greatly warmed my heart...

another incident happened to a friend who was feeling sick and almost green in her face when she took the train home... she msg me to tell me how poor thing she is.. and that an india indian passenger have given up his seat to let her have a rest during the long journey home while the rest of the passengers looked on... she was truly touched by his gesture...

talking about incidents like this can last until the moos come home.. but most of the incidents i witness, ppl who eventually give up their seats are usually foreigners or young kids... what happened to those working class in singapore? too busy reading papers or fake sleeping? of course there are working class ppl who give up seats, prob just not a huge portion...

so morale of the story: next time you see some pregnant lady, just dun stare at her tummy and still remain seated.... be nice and stand up to offer your seat... what comes around goes around... =)
