Meg joined me for kickboxing class today... she did the trial on sunday and she signed up for one month with me... I'm glad she did cos it gave her a chance to have regular exercise as well as a break from her routine of work and life... felt that i should share the benefit of kickboxing with all my friends and so far she's the first one who took the first step...
today's class was something more significant for me cos after that conversation with jason about moving to senior class... he felt i should move onto senior class cos i'm better now and i can move onto a more fast paced class... but somehow i can't seem to persuade myself to do so.. something is just not right about it but i cannot pin point it... felt that my moves were not good enough and i cannot imagine myself in senior class... so last week i didn't say much to jason during class but i took my time to pray about it and hopefully i will have the confidence to move up...so i gave myself one month to train myself up... work out my problem moves and stamina before i go up..
yup.. so back to this week's class... why is it significant to me? cos today during class, jason paired me up with julie who is a senior... not sure if it was a pre planned thing or it was by accident... but with julie, she was patient when i couldn't get my moves correct and corrected my funny errors.. she showed me that seniors aren't that aloof and all high and mighty... and through julie, i saw how seniors make mistakes too.. how they would miss the jabs and crosses as well...
more importantly, with meg around today, I saw how as a new student struggle to keep up with the pace in a class that she is not familiar with... how she struggle with the roundhouses and side kicks as well as the movements... i was once like that too... as i look back the eight months with beyond xtreme, i saw myself looking like meg, struggling with left and right, saw myself struggling with the saturation section as well as the crunches and squats... lots of things that happened to me during this 8 months and ppl at KB were always the first to know... cos i see them once a week and for jason, thrice a week.... as all of us struggle through the day's work and our own emotional baggage, we would always arrive at KB with a mentality to release our stress.. kick the shields harder and vent our frustrations, make ourselves work harder.... encourage each other to kick harder with each kick and each punch.
As i reach to the 9th month, i see myself much more able to survive through all the saturations, all the squats, crunches and push ups... able to hold the pads better and most of all, have a better sense of confidence of myself... that is what beyond xtreme has been doing for me... quietly in the background... so every single session i push myself a little more to reach to my own expected level of fitness for senior class and feel a little bit more confident about myself....
of course, talking about beyond xtreme, it brings back good memories and many funny ones..
1. Jason's broken toe.. his toe was broken during sparring with simon... out of action for six weeks... and with so many ladies around him, he had lots of TLC from us... sometimes even free rides from me from work to send him to class cos he stays so near to HP... not forgetting all the threats to sit on his poor little toe if he was mean to us...
2. Skippy peanut butter... a few of us are on the low carb diet and we all share the same food... and we all agree.. skippy peanut butter( crunchy ) is the best... we share tips on which foods are the best in the market, which brand and where to buy cheaper... and of course, our xmas presents are all peanut butter and peanuts... hehehe...
3. Left and right.... me and my buddy, elaine can never distinguish left and right.... left round house is always bad and we are crippled in our left.... always do the wrong side.. wrong side kicks, wrong hooks, then after a south paw, everything would go haywired.. heheh.. after 9 mths of training, once in a while i still get it wrong... still dream in class and cannot do it correctly..... heheh
4. Friendship.... over the 9 months, we have forged great friendship that extends beyond our KB class... especially with Jason and Elaine... the two of them have been there for me be it whether i have my fears for certain stances, when i am low and slacking in my workout and my diet... esp elaine, she has been there for me whenever i needed to talk... jason too... in fact, it's a blessing to have the both of them in my life as elaine can be my listening ear while jason nags at me to improve myself... esp with the kate ah kate.... hehehe...
Whatever it is, beyond xtreme has become a part of my life.. and i would make sure that it will be for as long as it can be... definitely beyond beyond xtreme.....
